Second Democrat enters 2024 presidential race

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. on Wednesday filed papers with the Federal Election Commission to run for president in the 2024 race. Kennedy, a nephew of the late President John F. Kennedy, is chairman of Children’s Health Defense, a nonprofit group known for its criticism of the COVID-19 vaccination campaign. The 69-year-old is the second Democrat to enter the race after self-help author Marianne Williamson. President Joe Biden has said he will seek reelection but has yet to formally announce his candidacy or file the paperwork.

How many Republicans have announced their candidacy? Former President Donald Trump in November was the first Republican to announce his candidacy. Former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley joined the race in February and former Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson announced his candidacy earlier this week. Michigan businessman Perry Johnson, entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, and former Rhode Island Mayor Steve Laffey also joined the race earlier this year.
