The Resurrection of the Christ, Mel Gibson’s long-awaited sequel to the successful 2004 motion picture, The Passion of the Christ, is officially set to debut in spring 2027 in two installments. The Resurrection of the Christ Part One will hit theaters on Good Friday in late March 2027. Part two will be released just over 40 days later in early May on Ascension Day. The sequels will be released over 20 years after The Passion of the Christ’s record success, which raked in $610 million globally, according to IMDB.
What will the film focus on? The films are expected to pick up after the crucifixion of Christ, but exact details of the plots remain unclear. Gibson described the two-part film’s script as “an acid trip,” while appearing on The Joe Rogan Experience podcast in January. There’s a lot that needs to go into the film, but the script is unlike anything he’s read, Gibson said.
