Actress Gina Carano on Thursday said she settled her lawsuit with Disney and Lucasfilm years after they fired her from The Mandalorian for controversial social media posts. She played a tough rebel soldier called Cara Dune in the streaming series that was part of the Star Wars franchise.
The outcome was best for both parties, Carano said. She did not give further details about the settlement. She thanked billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk for funding her wrongful termination lawsuit, even though the two had never met. The actress was grateful to God and intended to keep working in the arts, she said.
Lucasfilm said Carano was always respected by her colleagues and treated them well. The company was pleased to have reached a settlement and looked forward to finding opportunities to work with Carano in the future, according to a statement provided to Variety.
What’s the background on Carano’s firing? Lucasfilm fired her in 2021 after left-leaning fans repeatedly called for her dismissal. Fans criticized posts in which she refused to add transgender-style pronouns to her social media profile, instead writing “beep/bop/boop.” She also posted an image with text mocking masking regulations during COVID, and another image with text that compared modern political polarization to Nazi Germany. Carano later went on to act for The Daily Wire’s entertainment division.
