UConn wins men’s NCAA tournament

The Huskies beat San Diego State 76-59 Monday night to win the 2023 March Madness tournament. No. 4 seed UConn held an early lead, but fifth-seeded San Diego State cut their lead down to six points in the second half before the Huskies used one more string of unanswered goals to put the game away. UConn won all of its six tournament games by at least ten points. This was San Diego State’s first trip to the title game, held this year at NRG Stadium in Houston.

What were the major upsets? Early in the tournament, No. 16 seed Farleigh Dickenson, a private commuter school in Teaneck, N.J., beat No. 1 seed Purdue 63-58. Princeton, a No. 15 seed, advanced to the second weekend by beating No. 2 seed Arizona for their first NCAA Tournament win in 25 years. The tournament did not have a No. 1 seed in the Elite Eight for the first time since seeding began in 1979.
