Two missing, one dead after group swept over Oregon waterfall

Emergency responders on Sunday searched for two people who were swept over Dillon Falls near Bend, Ore. the day before. The falls are a series of quick-drop rapids on the Deschutes River in central Oregon. Marine patrol boats and K-9 teams combed the river downstream of the falls for three hours, while 15 people trained in swift-water rescues searched other areas, according to the Deschutes County Sheriff’s office. Drones also assisted the operation, which went on throughout the day, according to the sheriff’s office. Rescuers planned to continue searching on Monday.

What about the others in the group? Four other people in group were also swept over Dillon Falls on Saturday. One died, and first responders transported the three others to the hospital after rescuing them from the water, according to the sheriff’s office. The falls begin with a roughly 15-foot drop followed by a long stretch of violent rapids, according to Northwest Waterfall Survey. Photos from the sheriff’s office showed warning signs near the river that told people not to travel downstream toward the falls.
