Sneak peek: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader trailer

Big news for Narnia fans---Aslan is on the move. With the third film in the Chronicles franchise, The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, set to hit theaters on Dec. 10, WORLD has your first look at the trailer.

The Chronicles Of Narnia: The Voyage Of The Dawn Treader Official Teaser Trailer

If you're anything like me, seeing scenes you loved in the novel so well-rendered in this early peek will come as a welcome relief---especially after it looked like Hollywood had given up on C.S. Lewis' classic series.

In 2008 Disney dropped the project over budget disagreements with Walden Media and because the second film in the lineup, Prince Caspian, failed to perform up to expectations. But 20th Century Fox immediately picked it up with plans to release it under the Fox Walden banner.

Naturally, neither Walden nor Fox has divulged details of the production budget, but given that Walden walked away from the Mouse House because it was unwilling to go above $100 million, we can safely assume Dawn Treader will tally well above that figure by the end of production. (By comparison, according to Box Office Mojo, the third Harry Potter movie, Prisoner of Azkaban, cost around $130 million to make.)

While I'm thrilled that Fox is willing to invest enough cash to make Dawn Treader a worthy competitor for other children's fantasy films, I'm more encouraged by the new strategy the studio says it's embracing. That is, sticking to the story as C.S. Lewis wrote it and leaving in place the spiritual themes that inspired him.

To emphasize its commitment to Christian audiences, Fox is allowing a select group of faith-based publications like WORLD to post the trailer not only before it goes into theaters on June 18, but also before mainstream outlets like Entertainment Tonight get it. Hope you enjoy it, and let us know what you think.
