Sen. McConnell still not voting more than a week after hospitalization
Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., will not be voting this week after being hospitalized June 14 for an undisclosed health problem, a spokesman for the senator’s office told WORLD in a statement. The spokesman said McConnell was continuing to recover, but working closely with staff on Senate business in the meantime. The spokesperson didn’t provide any additional details on McConnell’s location or condition.
McConnell, 84, has held his Senate seat since 1985. He has experienced a number of medical incidents, including falls, in the past few years. He said in 2025 that he would not run for reelection.
The Senate Appropriations Committee postponed plans to vote spending bills out of committee this week because McConnell’s absence left Republicans without enough votes, according to a report by Bloomberg.
