President Trump wrestles with CNN

President Donald Trump continued his string of social media critiques on the mainstream media Sunday morning, posting a video on Twitter that shows him tackling and punching a man with the CNN logo superimposed on his head. The video, reportedly created by a Trump supporter, uses a staged scene from a 2007 World Wrestling Entertainment WrestleMania broadcast featuring Trump and WWE chairman and CEO Vince McMahon. Trump often refers to CNN as “fake news” and claims the cable network covers his administration unfairly. “At some point the Fake News will be forced to discuss our great jobs numbers, strong economy, success with ISIS, the border & so much else!” Trump tweeted Monday morning. Both Democrats and Republicans have criticized the president’s recent social media rants, including personal attacks against two MSNBC hosts last week, calling Trump’s tweets unpresidential. CNN responded to Trump’s video tweet in a statement that called for the president to do his job instead of involving himself “in juvenile behavior far below the dignity of his office.” Joel Simon, executive director of the Committee to Protect Journalists, told NPR that Trump’s contempt for the media “undermines the ability of journalists all over the world to stand up and defend their right to push back against repressive leaders.” Thomas Bossert, Trump’s homeland security adviser, defended his boss on ABC News’ This Week Sunday morning, saying Trump is simply expressing himself in a “genuine” way and no one should consider his tweets as threats.
