Patriots and Eagles to face off in Super Bowl LII
The New England Patriots secured their third AFC championship in four years Sunday, setting up a Super Bowl matchup with the NFC champion Philadelphia Eagles. Super Bowl LII on Feb. 4 in Minneapolis will feature the two No. 1 NFL playoff seeds and is a rematch of the 2005 title clash. The Patriots, led by head coach Bill Belichick and quarterback Tom Brady then as now, won that game 24-21. The Eagles dominated the Minnesota Vikings Sunday in the NFC championship game, winning 38-7 at home. Philadelphia lost starting quarterback Carson Wentz last month to injury, forcing Nick Foles into a leadership role. Foles threw for 352 yards and three touchdowns Sunday, helping the Eagles score 38 unanswered points. New England struggled early at home against Jacksonville in the AFC championship game and were 10 points behind in the fourth quarter but rallied to win after Brady threw two touchdown passes. Belichick and Brady have already won a record five Super Bowls together, and this is the Patriots’ 10th appearance as a franchise.
