Los Angeles to host 2028 Olympics
Los Angeles will host the 2028 Summer Olympic Games, according to an agreement announced Monday by Olympic officials. LA was originally bidding for the 2024 games, but reached a deal with the International Olympic Committee to delay until 2028, likely ceding the 2024 games to Paris. The agreement includes nearly $2 billion for the LA organizing committee in advance funds to help with the extended planning period. City officials say the financial deal will mean millions in savings and additional revenue. A formal committee vote approving the agreement is scheduled for September in Lima, Peru. If granted, 2028 will bring the games to LA for the third time—the city hosted in 1932 and 1984 as well.
