Iowa Democratic leadership on Thursday submitted a survey to party members in their state, requesting feedback on questions including whether to move their 2028 presidential nomination caucus back to its former slot as the earliest in the nation.
State party chair Rita Hart, who organized the survey, told the Associated Press that former President Joe Biden’s 2022 decision to move the South Carolina primary ahead of the Iowa one was a mistake. Changing the calendar of events left Democrats without a counterpart to the Iowa Republicans’ first-in-the-nation caucus, she said.
When will Democrats decide on the order of the 2028 nomination calendar? Hart, in an introduction to the survey, said that the Democratic National Committee would start a process for determining the calendar in December at the earliest. The national party’s chairman, Ken Martin, recently removed Iowa’s representative from the Rules and Bylaws Committee, which determines the process, she said.
