Former One Direction star dead at 31
Liam Payne, 31, fell from a third-floor balcony at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on Wednesday, the Associated Press reported. The music streaming giant Spotify shared that the company was saddened by reports of Payne’s death and said the thoughts and prayers of its employees were with his loved ones. Payne traveled the world and recorded music with One Direction until the group dissolved in 2016. Since then, he’d recorded, performed, and toured the world with his own music.
Do we know whether the fall was intentional? The Associated Press reported that a hotel manager called 911 shortly before Payne’s death. The manager claimed that an unnamed guest who was under the influence of alcohol and drugs was trashing his hotel room. Shortly before police arrived at the scene, Payne fell from the balcony. Investigators have not said if alcohol or drugs played a role in the incident, or if Payne was the individual the hotel manager was speaking of. Payne is survived by a 7-year-old son.
