First African nation makes it to World Cup semifinals

Morocco beat Portugal on Saturday 1-0, becoming the first African nation to advance so far in the World Cup. Now, Croatia will face Argentina on Tuesday and then Morocco faces France on Wednesday. The winners will face off in the World Cup final on Sunday. As of Monday, France’s Kylian Mbappe stands in first place for the Golden Boot, an award for the player with the most goals in the World Cup, with five goals. Lionel Messi, a player for Argentina and a soccer icon, is in second place for the award, while France’s Olivier Giroud is in third.

What else is happening at the World Cup? Qatar returned the body of an American reporter to the United States on Monday who died while covering the tournament. Journalist Grant Wahl collapsed Saturday while covering the quarterfinal match. He was 49. He had been treated for bronchitis earlier in the week and had complained of shortness of breath. The World Cup organizing committee said Wahl was treated at a hospital after his collapse, but it did not give the cause of death.
