BBC remasters vintage Narnia TV series for re-release

The British Broadcasting Corporation is expected to re-release its six-part 1988-1990 series on DVD and Blu-Ray in November as part of the 75th anniversary celebrations for C.S. Lewis’ iconic novel. The original series spans four of the seven novels in the series Lewis published between 1950 and 1956. The show covered Lewis’ The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe with three episodes and one-episode treatments of Prince Caspian, The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, and The Silver Chair. Along with the digitally remastered episodes, the BBC release will include a new documentary called “Return to Narnia,” documentary director Chris Chapman wrote on social media. The documentary will include many of the original cast and crew, including the four actors who as children portrayed the Pevensie siblings.

The products are listed for sale in the United Kingdom starting Nov. 24 on Amazon.com.

What other anniversary events are happening this year? HarperCollins Children’s Books is republishing the original seven novels with new cover art to commemorate the 75th anniversary of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe hitting shelves in 1950. The publisher is also partnering with the nonprofit organization Little Free Library to create 25 Narnia-themed free libraries across the United States.
