Conservative commentator Lou Dobbs dead at age 78
The former Fox Business host has died, according to an announcement on his official Twitter page. The post calls Dobbs a patriot and a fighter until the very end, adding that he fought for the things that mattered to him most: God, his family, and his country. No cause of death was provided.
Former President Donald Trump eulogized Dobbs in a post Thursday afternoon on the social media platform Truth Social. In it, Trump characterized Dobbs as a friend and a truly incredible journalist. Dobbs understood what was happening in the world better than other journalists, Trump added. In recent years, Dobbs had been a vocal supporter of the former president.
Who was Lou Dobbs? He made a name for himself on CNN hosting the business show Moneyline, which was later rebranded to Lou Dobbs Tonight. He left the news network in 2009 and from 2011 to 2021 hosted a program with the same name on Fox Business. He quickly became known for his conservative takes on complex public policy matters, including immigration and financial and economic issues.
Fox News Media issued a statement on Thursday, saying the company was deeply saddened by Dobbs’ passing. He had an incredible business mind with a gift for broadcasting and helped pioneer cable news into a successful and influential industry, the statement read.
Dobbs is survived by his wife, Debi, and several children.
