Amazon releases House of David TV show, depicting Old Testament king

MGM and Wonder Project debuted on Thursday a Biblical drama humanizing the life story of King David on Prime Video. House of David follows the rise of David, a shepherd boy chosen by God to be the next king of Israel, as well as King Saul’s moral failures and internal struggle to accept the Lord’s will. The show features other key Biblical figures, including the prophet Samuel, Saul’s children Jonathan and Mychal, and Goliath the Philistine, to name a few. The first three episodes dropped on Thursday, and a new episode will be released every Thursday until the April 3 finale for a total of eight episodes. A soundtrack inspired by the series was also released with songs from For King & Country, Ellie Holcomb, Chris Tomlin, and Lecrae, to name a few.

Do the show’s creators have any relationship to The Chosen? Jon Gunn and Jon Erwin served as co-writers and directors for House of David. The duo is known for producing the Christian cinematic success Jesus Revolution. Creator and producer-director of The Chosen, Dallas Jenkins, is also a shareholder and special advisor to Wonder Project. Erwin founded Wonder Project with the mission of serving a large but underserved audience by portraying stories of courage and faithfulness, according to the group’s website. Wonder Project CEO Kelly Merryman Hoogstraten previously served as vice president of content acquisition at Netflix before becoming vice president of content partnerships at YouTube.
