Vance, Walz agree to VP debate in October
Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio) and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz agreed to at least one debate currently scheduled for Oct. 1, according to host network CBS. The networks’ evening news anchor, Norah O'Donnell, and Face the Nation moderator, Margaret Brennan, will moderate the showdown in New York. The Harris-Walz campaign accepted one of the four dates proposed by CBS on Wednesday. Vance formally accepted the CBS invitation on Thursday while also proposing a second CNN-hosted debate on Sept. 18. The American people deserve as many debates as possible, he wrote on social media. Harris campaign communications director Michael Tyler told CBS Walz will only debate on Oct. 1, according to the network.
Were any more presidential debates announced? Former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris will hit the debate stage weeks before the VP candidates on Sept. 10. Harris will agree to one more debate with Trump sometime in October, Tyler said, according to CBS.
Trump is scheduled to be sentenced for 34 felony business fraud convictions a little over a week after the debate, on Sept. 18. The former president petitioned the judge in his case on Thursday to postpone sentencing until after the November election. A sentencing less than two months out from the election would qualify as election interference, Trump’s legal team argued.
Harris also made headlines earlier this week after she introduced the first-ever federal price-gouging ban for the food and grocery industries. She’s expected to speak on the plan while visiting North Carolina on Friday. Over 30 other states also have price-gouging laws on the books.
