Secretary of State Marco Rubio, along with U.S. allies France, Germany, and Britain, on Monday agreed to set the end of August as a deadline for a nuclear deal with Iran, according to an Axios report. The outlet said the European powers intend to reimpose United Nations Security Council sanctions on Iran if the country doesn’t agree to a deal by that time, citing three anonymous sources with knowledge of the discussions. The sanctions were previously lifted under a 2015 deal.
President Trump on Wednesday said the United States is open to negotiations with Iranian leaders whenever they are ready.
What other nuclear-related actions did the United States take on Wednesday? Rubio signed a memorandum of understanding on peaceful nuclear cooperation between the United States and Bahrain. The two countries agreed to work on mutual economic prosperity and promote nuclear safety and nonproliferation, according to the State Department.
