Two Arkansas inmates put to death
Arkansas executed two inmates in one night Monday just three hours apart. It was the first double execution in the United States since 2000. Jack Jones, 52, died shortly after 7 p.m. from lethal injection, and Marcel Williams, 46, was pronounced dead at 10:33 p.m. after a brief stay from a federal judge. Williams’ lawyers filed an emergency appeal to a judge because of concerns over Jones’ earlier execution, but the judge allowed a delay of only about one hour. Both men were sent to death row for rape and murder. Arkansas scheduled a total of four executions beginning last week and finishing before April 30, when its supply of one of the lethal injection drugs will expire.
