Trump meets with Rwandan president to ease tensions with African nations
In attempt to keep a peaceful partnership with African nations, U.S. President Donald Trump met with Rwandan President Paul Kagame on Friday at the annual World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. Trump received international backlash for reportedly using an obscenity to refer to some African nations and Haiti during a meeting two weeks ago on immigration at the White House. Some of the president’s allies denied he used the language, while others present at the meeting maintained the reports were true. Several African nations summoned U.S. ambassadors to explain Trump’s comments, and South African leaders staged a formal protest. “It really truly is a great honor,” Trump told Kagame on Friday, wishing the leader well in his upcoming meetings with the African Union. “So please give my regards, I know you’re going to your first meeting very shortly. Please give my warmest regards. But it’s an honor to have you as a friend.” Kagame told reporters he had a good discussion with Trump on economic issues and looks forward to the African Union working with the United States more in the future. Trump ignored questions about the language he used during that White House immigration meeting.
