President Donald Trump underwent his first annual physical exam since re-entering office on Friday at Walter Reed Medical Center. Trump insisted he felt better than ever when commenting on the appointment days before. Check ups are just one of those things that have to get done, he wrote. Trump made history in January as the oldest person sworn into the office of the president.
What were the results of Friday’s physical? The White House publicly released the results of the physical on Sunday. Trump remains in excellent health, which is likely due at least in part to his active lifestyle, according to Capt. Sean Barbabella, the president’s physician. That lifestyle included participation in multiple meetings, public appearances, press availabilities and frequent golfing events. Barbabella went on to say the president exhibits robust cardiac, pulmonary, neurological, and general physical function. Trump’s blood pressure was recorded at 128/74 mm HG, and his heart rate was 62 beats per minute. He is currently taking medications for cholesterol control and cream for a skin condition.
What have Trump’s past physicals reported? Dr. Ronny Jackson performed Trump’s last physical exam in January 2018 and also described the president’s overall health as excellent. Trump weighed 239 pounds with a resting heart rate of 68 bpm and blood pressure at 122/74 mm HG, according to the report. Trump experienced a number of long-term health benefits for avoiding tobacco and alcohol use throughout his life, Jackson wrote. However, the doctor recommended less fat and carbohydrates in Trump’s diet, and suggested implementing a regular exercise regimen. Jackson also noted Trump’s history of high cholesterol and opted to increase the dosage of his cholesterol medication.
