Texas AG Paxton’s wife files for divorce

Texas state Senator Angela Paxton on Thursday said she filed for a divorce from her husband, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, on Biblical grounds. She decided to leave her 38-year marriage after what she called recent discoveries. She believed that marriage was a sacred covenant, and she and Ken had previously attempted to pursue reconciliation, she said. In addition to being attorney general, Ken Paxton is running for a seat in the U.S. Senate.

What did Ken say about the situation? The attorney general said he and his wife decided to start a new chapter in their lives due to the pressures of political attacks and public scrutiny. He was grateful for his children and grandchildren and requested prayers and privacy, he said.

What political attacks might Paxton be referencing? In 2023, the couple went through nearly two weeks of a Senate impeachment trial against Ken Paxton. Senators eventually voted to dismiss allegations of corruption. The testimony included discussions of allegations that Ken Paxton had an extramarital affair.

How is Ken Paxton’s campaign for U.S. senator going? Paxton on Friday reported that he received $2.9 million in campaign donations in the last quarter of the year. An independent poll of GOP primary voters taken in May showed Paxton in the lead over incumbent John Cornyn, 50% to 28%.
