Shots fired in Georgia’s Fort Stewart; Suspect in custody
Law enforcement arrested a suspect at Fort Stewart in Georgia on Monday afternoon, minutes after several shots were fired on the base around 2 p.m. No one was hurt during the incident, according to the U.S. Army’s 3rd Infantry Division. The shots occurred around Engineer Road on the base. The road is near an explosive ordnance disposal shop and motor pools for several battalions, according to online maps. The base went on lockdown for about 10 minutes while the incident unfolded, according to the 3rd Infantry Division.
The suspect was a soldier stationed at the base who surrendered peacefully to officers, according to WSB-TV.
The base was the site of a shooting last year, as well. Back in August 2025, a soldier stationed at the base shot and injured five fellow soldiers.
