At least four Planned Parenthood locations in California recently began offering Botox injections and other beauty treatments alongside abortion, birth control, and cross-sex hormones. The Planned Parenthood facilities are located in Sacramento, Stockton, and other nearby towns, according to a booking website. Revenue shortfalls prompted the move, according to Planned Parenthood Mar Monte. The affiliate claims to be the national organization’s largest group, overseeing 30 centers in mid-California and Nevada.
Medicaid reimbursement for its other services does not provide enough money for the organization to remain stable, Mar Monte said. Congress’ one-year defunding of Planned Parenthood ended in July, but the organization is still blocked from receiving federal money for abortions. The organization previously ended its primary care and prenatal services and closed five locations due to budget difficulties, according to the California Family Council.
Planned Parenthood Mar Monte said the beauty treatments align with its stated mission to contribute to clients’ well-being. Many people sought aesthetic services to affirm their gender identity or generally “feel good” about themselves, the organization said.
The centers continue to offer services for killing clients’ unborn children.
