Republicans say Hunter Biden contempt charges pending

House Oversight and Accountability Committee Chairman James Comer, R-Ky., said on Friday a resolution could come next week. The markup would hold President Joe Biden’s son, Hunter Biden, in contempt of Congress for defying lawful subpoenas. The younger Biden refused to appear for closed-door testimony before members of Congress last month, instead holding a press conference elsewhere on Capitol grounds. Hunter had previously said he was willing to testify only in a public setting.

What was he going to be questioned about? House Republicans last month formalized an impeachment inquiry into the president after previously investigating his family members’ businesses for months. Comer said Friday that Republicans’ investigation has uncovered “significant evidence suggesting President Biden knew of, participated in, and benefitted from his family cashing in on the Biden name.” Comer added that Republicans would question Hunter Biden about that evidence. The White House has repeatedly denied that the president engaged in any wrongdoing.
