Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene seeks to oust Speaker Johnson
The Georgia Republican on Friday said she filed a motion to vacate the speaker’s chair after the House voted to pass a $1.2 trillion spending bill. The bill is the second of two spending bills to fund the government until the next fiscal year, and Greene said it does nothing to address the crisis at the U.S. southern border. She also said the package funded “full-term abortion” and “trans ideology on our youth.”
Does she propose a candidate to be the next speaker? In a video she posted to social media, Greene received a question from a reporter asking whether she believed someone else in the Republican party could get the 218 votes necessary to become speaker. “I certainly hope so,” she responded. She acknowledged the last time Republicans ousted a speaker, they experienced difficulty electing a new one, but said the spending bill passed on Friday showed the House was not in better shape as a result.
