President Biden makes unannounced visit to Ukraine

U.S. President Joe Biden on Monday visited Kyiv to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. While there Biden promised another half-billion dollars in assistance to Ukraine for artillery shells and radar but stopped short of offering fighter jets. Biden is scheduled to travel to Warsaw, Poland, Monday where he will meet with NATO allies to discuss the war. Friday will mark the first anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

How else are international leaders responding to the war? Vice President Kamala Harris said at last week’s Munich Security Conference that Russia was committing “crimes against humanity” in Ukraine. Senate Minority leader Mitch McConnell said Republican leaders are committed to a strong transatlantic alliance because of economic and security ties. Also during the meeting, European leaders pushed for more spending on weapons and faster delivery of those weapons to Kyiv. Russia was not invited to the conference for the first time in decades.
