New Clinton email dump includes Benghazi docs
Possible information on terror attack found in latest emails Clinton tried to permanently erase
WASHINGTON—The latest batch of 14,900 documents found on former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s private email server include some related to the terror attacks in Benghazi, Libya—documents Clinton previously failed to turn over, according to Judicial Watch.
The conservative watchdog group announced yesterday that State Department lawyers admitted in a court filing this week some of the new emails “satisfied the [Benghazi-related] search terms.” That suggests Clinton intentionally withheld or deleted information about the Sept. 11, 2012, attacks that left four Americans dead, including U.S. Ambassador Christopher Stevens.
But in a statement yesterday, the State Department made it clear the new discovery does not prove anything—yet.
“Using broad search terms, we have identified a number of documents potentially responsive to a Benghazi-related request,” said spokeswoman Elizabeth Trudeau. “At this time, we have not confirmed that the documents are, in fact, responsive. We also have not determined if they involve Secretary Clinton.”
Pursuant to multiple Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests filed by Judicial Watch, the FBI transmitted the new batch of documents to the Department of State on Aug. 5. Administration officials agreed to search through the documents and turn over relevant material.
State Department officials originally agreed to produce the emails on a rolling schedule but must now speed up their rate of production.
Judge William Dimitrouleas, a District Court judge in Florida, ruled yesterday the State Department must begin turning over all emails it finds between Clinton and the White House from the week of the Benghazi attack by Sept. 13.
This news follows other court orders for the State Department to speed up its document release.
Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton said Clinton intentionally tried to delete and hide Benghazi-related information: “No wonder federal courts in Florida and [Washington,] D.C., are ordering the State Department to stop stalling and begin releasing the 14,900 new Clinton emails.”
Last month, FBI Director James Comey concluded the bureau’s year-long investigation into Clinton’s use of a private email server during her time as secretary of state. He recommended not pursuing charges against her, citing a lack of criminal intent. But Comey did admit the FBI was not able to recover all Clinton’s old emails.
Rep. Trey Gowdy, R-S.C., the former chairman of the House Select Committee on Benghazi, told FOX News yesterday it’s no wonder investigators failed to find all Clinton’s emails because her team used a special program to permanently scrub her server.
“They didn’t just push the delete button. They had them deleted where even God can’t read them,” Gowdy said.
According to Gowdy, Clinton used a program called BleachBit to permanently scramble the server’s data.
Clinton said this week in an interview with Jimmy Kimmel she’s embarrassed by investigators unearthing her emails—but only because they are so boring. Gowdy scoffed at that assertion.
“You don’t use BleachBit for yoga emails, or for bridesmaids emails,” Gowdy said. “When you’re using BleachBit, it is something you really do not want the world to see.”
