A man in England removed a handmade “Jesus Loves You” sticker from his car after an insurance company threatened to stop its policy on the vehicle. GoSkippy Insurance told Simeon Chandra he had to take off the stickers on the vehicle for his insurance policy to remain valid. The company’s actions have potentially violated Chandra’s freedom of religion and expression, the Christian Legal Centre said Friday. Christians like him should be free to express their faith in public without being excluded from essential services. Chandra is considering taking legal action, Christian Legal Centre noted.

WORLD reached out to Somerset Bridge Insurance Services, which owns and operates GoSkippy, for comment, but did not immediately hear back. The company also declined to issue comments to other news outlets.

What exactly happened? A GoSkippy Insurance broker told 35-year-old Chandra that the company’s underwriting department declined the sticker modification on his Nissan Pixo. Chandra, from Birmingham, needed to send in a dated photograph showing the vehicle without any stickers for his policy to continue. The company did not provide a reason for its decision.

Chanda removed the stickers for fear of driving an uninsured car, according to British outlet GB News. He has repeatedly asked for clarification from the company but has not heard back, according to the Christian Legal Centre.

His 2009 vehicle had been decorated on both doors, with stickers that read “Jesus Loves You” and “Jesus Loves You V Much.” He added the stickers to spread a positive message about Jesus, according to the Christian Legal Centre. He was shocked and upset when he learned he had to remove the stickers, Chandra said in a statement. The message on his car was simple and not abusive, political, hateful, or commercial, he added. He said it was intended to be a message of hope.
