MacArthur ally Phil Johnson retiring from Grace to You
Phil Johnson, the executive director of the Grace to You podcast, said he would retire from that position July 1, at the end of the program’s fiscal year. However, he would continue daily announcements on the podcast as a volunteer, he said. Johnson, 73, has worked for Grace to You for 43 years. The program was founded by the late Rev. John MacArthur, featuring the Reformed Baptist theologian’s evangelical and dispensational teachings.
Johnson cited his age and his incurable cancer as reasons for stepping back. Board members of the ministry suggested that he retire, given those factors, he said. He was not forced out but agreed with them that the timing was right, he said. Johnson added that he had originally planned to retire nearly a decade earlier. The ministry needed to be in the hands of people who could steer it into the next generation, he said.
Johnson is a longtime elder at Grace Community Church in Sun Valley, Calif. He would continue teaching at the church, where he had always been a volunteer, he said.
