Libertarian Party nominates Chase Oliver as presidential candidate

The Libertarian Party on Sunday nominated Chase Oliver as its presidential candidate. Oliver celebrated his nomination on social media, calling for factions to unite and advance toward liberty. The decision came after the party held its national convention in Washington, D.C., this past weekend. Both independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and the presumptive Republican nominee, former President Donald Trump, spoke at the convention, seeking the Libertarian Party’s endorsement.

Who is Oliver? The 38-year-old from Georgia has pitched himself as a younger voice who can draw in voters outside the Libertarian Party. He has described himself to reporters as gay and committed to gun rights. He advocates for an Ellis Island immigration policy, the reduction of inflation, and personal choice on tough issues, according to a party platform on his website. He ran for the U.S. Senate in Georgia in 2022 and got enough votes to force a runoff election between former NFL running back Herschel Walker and Georgia Reverend Raphael Warnock. Warnock ultimately won the election.

What are his intentions in entering the presidential race? Oliver gave an exclusive interview with WORLD’s Carolina Lumetta at the party convention in D.C. He hopes to gather enough votes in the general election to signal to the two major parties that voters want smaller government and more personal liberty. He said roughly two-thirds of U.S. voters are willing to consider voting for someone other than President Joe Biden or Trump.
