The alleged gangster and illegal immigrant who made headlines for his deportation to El Salvador and lengthy legal battle was again arrested Monday. Immigration and Customs Enforcement took Garcia into custody on Monday, according to Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem. This time, Kilmar Abrego Garcia will be deported to Uganda, according to the Department of Homeland Security. The department did not say why it chose the country or if the deportee had any connections there.
Abrego Garcia, originally from El Salvador, lived under temporary legal status in Maryland before his March deportation. After his deportation, he was brought back to the United States to face federal charges that included human smuggling, which he denied. Abrego Garcia was released from U.S. Marshals’ custody in Tennessee to await his trial. Immigration authorities arrested him on Monday after he checked in at a Baltimore ICE office.
