Jimmy Carter hospitalized with dehydration
UPDATE: Former President Jimmy Carter was discharged from the hospital in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Friday morning and returned to work at a Habitat for Humanity worksite. Carter, 92, was treated “as a precaution” for dehydration, Carter spokeswoman Deanna Congileo said, adding, “He and Mrs. Carter extend their appreciation for the many well-wishes he received worldwide.”
OUR EARLIER REPORT (7/14/2017, 04:16 p.m.): Doctors in Canada are treating former U.S. President Jimmy Carter for dehydration after he fell ill while helping build Habitat for Humanity houses. Habitat CEO Jonathan Reckford said Carter, 92, is being kept at the hospital for observation. “He encourages everyone to stay hydrated and keep building,” Reckford said. The Atlanta-based housing charity is building several houses in Canada this week, and the project represents the 34th time Carter and his wife, Rosalynn, have joined Habitat construction crews. Doctors in Atlanta diagnosed Carter in 2015 with melanoma that spread to his brain. But just a few months later, Carter announced he no longer needed treatment. He continued to volunteer on Habitat projects during his cancer treatment.
