Covenant Eyes this week rolled out the name change for its app on iPhones as the last stage in its renaming process across different operating systems. The porn blocking and web monitoring application is now named Victory Shield and will continue to offer the same accountability and protection services. The name of the business itself will stay the same. According to the company, Covenant Eyes decided to change its application’s name to avoid confusion among its different products. The business also offers pornography detox programs for men and women, and training materials to help churches address porn with their congregations.
When was the company founded? Ron DeHaas in 2000 started the organization with the goal of using technology to help people use the internet in a way that honors God. He created Internet Accountability, which tracked the websites a user visited, compiled the information in a report, and sent that report to an accountability partner. DeHaas named his company Covenant Eyes after the Bible verse Job 31:1 in which Job says he made a covenant with his eyes not to look lustfully at a woman. The company then expanded to include other tools, programs, and its app for smartphones. It claims to have helped over 1.7 million people quit using pornography.
