Iowa Supreme Court blocks 20-week abortion ban
The Iowa Supreme Court halted parts of a 20-week abortion ban over the weekend. Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad signed the ban into law Friday. It protects babies once a pregnancy reaches 20 weeks. The law also requires a three-day waiting period for any abortion. The American Civil Liberties Union and Planned Parenthood filed suit and were granted a temporary injunction. Twenty-four states have laws that ban abortion past a certain point in a pregnancy, with most setting that mark at 20 weeks.
