House votes to block Biden administration from withholding weapons from Israel
The House of Representatives voted on Thursday 224-87 to pass a bill that would prevent government officials or agencies from pausing or withholding congressionally approved weapons shipments to Israel. The vote comes after the White House admitted to pausing a shipment containing 2,000-pound bombs because of concerns they could be used against areas populated by civilians.
What’s the future of this bill? The White House has said that President Joe Biden will veto the bill if Congress passes it. The reason for doing so, the White House said, is because the bill would take away Biden’s discretion to make sure weapons were used per U.S. foreign policy objectives.
