House speaker promises vote on Biden impeachment inquiry

The vote is scheduled for next week, House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., said on Tuesday. He said House Republicans had “no choice” but to try to bring about a formal impeachment inquiry of President Joe Biden through a vote on the House floor. Johnson accused the White House of refusing to provide information House Republicans had requested related to Biden’s connection to his family’s business dealings. The White House has repeatedly dismissed House Republicans’ accusations as baseless.

Didn’t Republicans already open an impeachment inquiry? Earlier this year, former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., announced the beginning of an impeachment inquiry into Biden. He did not bring the inquiry before the House in a floor vote, however. House Republicans have been investigating Biden and the extent of his connection to his family’s business dealings for months.
