The House Oversight and Accountability Committee on Tuesday began a probe into allegations that former President Joe Biden’s top aides covered up his physical and mental decline. Republican committee members summoned former Domestic Policy Council director Neera Tanden for a closed-door transcribed interview on Tuesday, according to committee chairman Rep. James Comer, R-Kentucky.
The committee planned to interview three more aides over the next month. Former Assistant to the President and Senior Advisor to the First Lady Anthony Bernthal is scheduled to meet with the committee on Thursday. Comer told Fox News that the committee will ask all four aides about whether they chose documents to sign with Biden’s autopen without the former president’s involvement. Comer also said he’s summoning other officials for interviews, including Biden’s doctor.
Who are the other aides who have agreed to interviews with the committee? Ashley Williams, the former deputy director of Oval Office Operations, is slated for an interview on July 11. Former Deputy Chief of Staff Annie Tomasini will appear before the committee on July 18, according to Comer.
What other Oversight Committee news came out Tuesday? Democratic representatives elected Rep. Robert Garcia, D-Calif., as their new ranking member for the committee. Garcia replaced Virginia Rep. Gerry Connolly, who died in May. Garcia on Tuesday pledged to hold the Trump administration accountable for what he called corruption.
