Harris plans trip to Central America

Vice President Kamala Harris will travel next week to Guatemala and Mexico to discuss what she calls the root causes of the migrant surge on the U.S. southern border.

What’s on the schedule? Harris told reporters Wednesday that she’ll kick off the trip by meeting with Guatemalan President Alejandro Giammattei to talk about how to respond to hunger, economic development, and extreme weather events in the country. She previously held virtual meetings with the presidents of Guatemala and Mexico. The Biden administration has pledged more than $300 million in relief to the Northern Triangle countries of Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador.
