Sophia Forchas, who was critically wounded in an attack on the Annunciation Catholic Church in Minneapolis, returned home from the hospital on Thursday. She had been hospitalized since the Aug. 27 shooting, in which a man killed two children and injured more than a dozen others, including Forchas.
A gunshot wound to the head initially left the 12-year-old in critical condition and near death, according to a statement from her family. Forchas began to show signs of neurological recovery in late September.
How is she doing now? Forchas had recovered abilities to walk, swim, and play basketball, her family said on Thursday. She was progressing in speech, though she had a long road of outpatient therapy ahead, they said.
Forchas’ family thanked teams of neurosurgeons, intensive care doctors, and rehab therapists for their roles in her care. They also credited the power of prayers from around the world for her recovery.
