Hurricane Gabrielle strengthened into a Category 3 storm on Monday after becoming the second hurricane of the 2025 Atlantic hurricane season over the weekend. Gabrielle’s maximum sustained winds reached 120 miles per hour, with some gusts even stronger, according to the National Hurricane Center.
The storm was expected to become a low-grade hurricane and possibly hit Bermuda, a British archipelago in the North Atlantic. But although Gabrielle has grown stronger than predicted, it is currently forecast to pass east of Bermuda.
Are there any risks from the hurricane to North America? Coastal residents should watch out for life-threatening swells and rip currents from North Carolina to Canada, according to the National Hurricane Center.
