FBI director warns of possible Chinese hacker attacks on infrastructure
Christopher Wray testified to members of Congress on Wednesday that Chinese hackers have snuck into many critical infrastructures. Wray’s testimony on the Chinese Communist Party before the House Select Committee appeared alongside testimony from other experts, including Gen. Paul Nakasone, who heads up the United States Cyber Command.
How long has this hacking activity been going on? Last year, the Defense Department publicly acknowledged the existence of a China-backed hacking network called Volt Typhoon. Pentagon spokesman Matthew Miller said then-U.S. intelligence officials believed Chinese hackers are “almost certainly capable” of disrupting critical infrastructure such as oil, gas, and rail systems in the United States.
