Dallas shooter used ICE tracking apps, watched Kirk video

The shooter who killed one Immigration and Customs Enforcement detainee and wounded two others at a facility on Wednesday used apps to track agents’ location, according to FBI Director Kash Patel. The deceased suspect also researched ballistics and watched videos of Charlie Kirk’s assassination before the attack, Patel said.

The shooter was identified as 29-year-old Joshua Jahn of Fairview, Texas, according to Acting U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Texas Nancy Larson. He hit the length of the ICE facility with bullets, intending to maximize deaths of agents and damage to the building, she said at a Thursday press conference. The shooter left notes saying that he viewed ICE agents as human traffickers and wanted to cause terror. He did not intentionally target detainees, she said.

However, the shooter knew that there was a possibility of other casualties, according to the FBI’s Joe Rothrock. The man obtained his bolt-action rifle legally and likely acted alone, Rothrock said.

What other information came out at the press conference? The killed and wounded detainees were in a transport van that pulled up outside the facility. ICE and ATF agents raced to get detainees out of the van while shots were still being fired, ICE official Marcos Charles said. Mainstream media coverage about apps that track ICE operations increased the danger to law enforcement members, Charles said.
