President Bush's stock is down 10 points off last year's highs. His approval rating, 57 percent, is the lowest since 9/11, says Gallup. He receives high marks on Iraq and the war on terrorism. But only 45 percent support the Bush economic plan and 40 percent oppose it.

President Bush's prospects for reelection are shaky. His reelect numbers have dropped below 50 percent. In a hypothetical campaign next year, the president draws 47 percent to 39 percent for an unnamed Democrat. Analysts expect President Bush's numbers to spike again as the country rallies for war.

A new Zogby poll finds 63 percent of rank-and-file Democrats still believe President Bush will win reelection. Former Clinton chief of staff Leon Panetta worries Democrats look "weak" and are lurching left. Democrats must "get their act together [and] define the party that sits at the political center," and not just cater to left-wing groups.
