Witnesses report airstrike on Ethiopian market

Health workers said soldiers blocked medical teams from the scene of an attack that left at least 51 people dead in Ethiopia’s Tigray region. A regional health official said the suspected airstrike on a busy marketplace in Togoga injured more than 100 people.

What’s happening in Tigray? The Ethiopian federal government’s military offensive to oust the regional leadership of the semi-autonomous region has killed thousands and displaced around 2 million people since November. Violence in the area has intensified recently, and federal troops and supporting soldiers from Eritrea are accused of limiting humanitarian aid and damaging health centers. Tigray did not participate in the country’s federal and regional elections on Monday.
