With all eyes on Rio, Russia threatens Ukraine

Russian and Ukrainian troops are facing off combat-ready on the Crimean border after the latest spat between the two nations. Russia accuses Ukraine of sending small groups of saboteurs into Crimea, Ukrainian territory that Russia has occupied since 2014. Two Russian soldiers died in a firefight in the alleged incursion over the weekend, according to government statements. But Ukraine says Russia made up the allegations to provoke more fighting that would hold up the implementation of a peace agreement. Russian president Vladimir Putin has a history of making military moves during the Olympics, when many world leaders are traveling. As Bloomberg News noted, Russia moved into Crimea just after the Sochi Olympic in 2014, and Putin sent troops into Georgia during the 2008 Beijing games.
