White House denies McMaster is departing

WASHINGTON—The Trump administration rebuffed reports on Friday that national security adviser H.R. McMaster is on his way out the door. “Look, Gen. McMaster’s not going anywhere,” White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders told Fox & Friends Friday morning. “As the president said yesterday in the Oval Office to a number of people, he thinks he’s doing a great job. He’s glad he’s here.” Her comments come after NBC News reported Thursday that President Donald Trump and McMaster have a strained relationship and the White House is forming a plan to replace the national security adviser as early as next month. The president appointed McMaster to the position after he fired Michael Flynn for lying to him about his conversations with Russian officials. Despite Sanders’ assurance, Trump and McMaster have shown signs of discord. Last month, the president scolded McMaster after the adviser said the evidence that Russia interfered in the 2016 presidential election was incontrovertible. “General McMaster forgot to say that the results of the 2016 election were not impacted or changed by the Russians and that the only collusion was between Russia and Crooked H, the DNC, and the Dems,” Trump tweeted.
