Web reads: One doctor saves 50 million lives, another aborts 'for Jesus'

Lifesaver. The BBC tells the story of a little-known American doctor who helped save 50 million lives by coming up with an oral rehydration formula for treatment of severe diarrhea. “A solution of sugar, salts and water, many of which can be found in a kitchen cupboard, can be all it takes to save a child’s life. … But finding the right balance was crucial—and Dr Norbert Hirschhorn played a key part.”

Life-taker. Esquire Magazine glowingly profiles Dr. Willie Parker, an abortionist with a reassuring bedside manner able to overcome even religious objections. “The protesters say they’re opposed to abortion because they’re Christian,” Parker says. “It’s hard for them to accept that I do abortions because I’m a Christian.” No one in the article challenges that assertion.

Christians respond. LaShawn Barber challenged that yesterday, rightly calling Parker one of abortion’s “masquerading wolves.” Russell Moore, president of the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention, also responds to the Esquire article, reminding us that “there is no one living who is beyond the call to salvation, and there is no sin that cannot be overcome by the redeeming blood of Christ. … The gospel can even save one who is so far gone that he believes he is aborting in Jesus’ name.”

Pro-life Europe. Buzzfeed reports that pro-life and pro-family issues are apparently less settled than the European establishment thought. European elites are facing an energized social conservative movement.

Good for a laugh. If you are ready for a 4 minute break from strenuous brain work, tune in to the Farmer Derek Klingenberg YouTube station and watch his cows respond to a trombone serenade featuring Lorde’s “Royals.” And the Peterson Farm Bros. (3 brothers) have a “Gangnam Style” parody video, “Farmer Style,” that has more than 15 million views.
