Vivek Ramaswamy, Amy Acton win Ohio gubernatorial nominations
Unofficial results showed former presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy easily winning the contested Republican primary for governor. The tech billionaire gathered roughly four out of every five votes. Ramaswamy’s primary opponent, business owner and YouTube personality Casey Putsch, had about 15% of the vote. Meanwhile, Amy Acton, the state’s former public health director, secured the Democratic nomination while running unopposed.
Voters in Ohio and Indiana on Tuesday voted in primaries establishing the contests that could determine control of the U.S. House and Senate. In an Ohio race for Senate, former Democratic Sen. Sherrod Brown cinched his party’s nomination over Ron Kincaid. Sherrod will face current Sen. Jon Husted, the Republican nominee, in the Nov. 3 general election.
Analysts have described the GOP primary in Indiana as a test of President Donald Trump’s power. He endorsed seven challengers to run against state senators who had voted against a redistricting plan. As of Tuesday evening, five of the challengers and one of the incumbents had cinched their nominations, the Associated Press reported. One of the races was too close to call.
In Michigan, Democrats retained control of the state Senate as Chedrick Greene beat Republican Jason Tunney in a special election to fill a vacant seat.
