VA fires 200 employees

The Department of Veterans Affairs says it has suspended 200 employees and demoted another 33 workers as part of the Trump administration’s efforts to clean house. President Donald Trump has called the VA “the most incompetently run agency in the United States.” Last month, Trump signed into law the Veterans Affairs Accountability and Whistleblower Protection Act, bipartisan legislation that made it easier to fire bad employees. The agency has fired more than 500 employees since Trump took office. In 2014, scandal rocked the agency after reports showed nearly 100 veterans died waiting for care at a Phoenix VA hospital. Later investigations showed the problem extended to VA facilities across the country.
